I had the marriage, the kids, the house. The whole picture everyone says you should want. And I’d look at my life and feel like I was watching someone else live it.
That’s the feeling I want to talk about today. Because I’ve lived on both sides of it now, and I finally have a name for the difference.
It’s called alignment. And I used the word for years before I really understood it.
Here’s what I got wrong. I thought alignment was a look. The house, the marriage, the checklist. It all photographed well. I had the picture, and I was the most lost I’ve ever been.
Alignment isn’t a vibe. It’s not a vision board. It’s not “good vibes only” with a latte.
Alignment is when your outside life stops arguing with your inside life.
That’s it. That’s the whole definition. Everything else is decoration.
There’s a trap I want to name, because I see it in so many of us. We have a version of ourselves living rent-free in our heads. She wakes up early, journals, never spirals, always says the right thing. And we tell ourselves alignment means becoming her.
She isn’t real. And chasing a fantasy version of yourself is its own kind of misalignment, because now your real life is arguing with a person who doesn’t exist.
You don’t need to be her to start. The gap between the life you have and the life you want is only crossed by doing it badly for a while. Alignment isn’t the prize you get after you become perfect. It’s the decision to begin as you are.
And it’s not something you manifest once. It’s a decision you make over and over, in small, unsexy moments. Saying the thing you actually think. Leaving the room that shrinks you. Admitting the shirt doesn’t fit even though everyone says it looks great on you.
These days, alignment looks like my fiancé cooking dinner while I laugh in the kitchen on a random Tuesday. It looks like saying the thing I actually think. It looks like my life finally fitting the woman I actually am, instead of the woman I was performing.
If your life looks fine but feels off, hear me: that’s not ingratitude. That’s information. Your body knew before your brain caught up. Mine did too.
Tell me, what’s one area of your life that looks good on paper but feels off? Hit reply or leave a comment. I read every single one.
You’re not behind. You’re just a few chapters from the part where it all starts making sense.
